Its a beautiful day for football and to cheer go white and go green with our rendition of Sparty. Keep your babies captivated with the plush Spartan and their first words may just be go state!\nThe first Michigan State mascot appeared in 1955 and was a papier-mch costume Spartan head that was six feet tall and weighed more than 60 pounds. This was replaced with a fiberglass version that was thirty pounds lighter during the 1956 Rose Bowl game. By 1989, the Sparty mascot was re-designed and revamped to be in line with Michigan States mission, community and traditions.
